I love trying out new nail polish colours just for the heck of it. Sometimes they surprise me and I use them often, then other times, I have painted my nails and immediately removed the colour because it looks so shockingly horrible (I don’t mention those ones too often). Other times, I wait a day or two to see if it grows on me.
I may have mentioned before that I try a lot of the Essence nail colours and the main reason is that they’re really well priced and I do like how they glide over my nails. Overall, considering their price, I’ve really been taken with how well they usually last. Of course, you don’t expect the colour to last as well if you do tons of dishes without gloves on or hand washing of clothing, which goes without saying I’d guess.
This week I needed a little pick-me-up (oh to be honest, every day could do with one) and was in Clicks when I passed the Essence stand … I stopped ‘just to look’ and next thing found myself walking to the cashier with a nailpolish in my hand and the other items I’d actually gone into the store to purchase.
I thought the colour would be more lilac than blue, but I am not wholly disappointed, just surprised. I do think it may be a little too young for me, but what the heck, I decided to keep an eye out for others reactions. After painting my nails, our Felicia noticed immediately and said how much she liked the colour. Then I sent the photo above to my sister and asked if she thought it was a little young. She came back saying she liked it but did not elaborate on my question of ‘don’t you think its a little young’?
Overall, the price is almost unbeatable, goes on like a dream, shimmery and playful (we really only live once and wearing a nailpolish colour that’s not totally suitable is really the last thing we should we worrying about – right?).
However, despite not having done dishes and only washing my hair in the shower yesterday morning, while out doing some shopping with Schatz in the afternoon the polish chipped.
Today, it looks like this (48+ hours in)
Two coats including a top coat, I do expect polish to last at least 3 days as a minimum before the first signs of chips appear. But let me say this, the more I look at the colour, the more it grows on me. Pity it didn’t last too well but I’ll keep it and wear it again, just ’cause its’ cute. At least I know now not to expect it to last for more than a day or two.
This morning I found an awesome article on Total Beauty about mani and pedi colour combos to try. Slide no. 3 really appealed to me. I have found that I do like a darker colour on my toe nails and lighter on my finger nails. And then, although I don’t like nailart for myself, they have some awesome ideas on this slideshow for Spring 2014 Nail Art. Feast your eyes friends and how about doing something a little snazzy for the week.
Happy Sunday folks.
